If you have not done so already, it is a great time have both a United and Continental mileage credit card. Both cards are through Chase. In the not to distant future, you will be able to merge miles between both accounts and as time goes by, the Continental card will be replaced with the new United card. Typically when two airlines merge and combine their frequent flier programs the offer bonuses for combining your accounts.

Continental has always had one of the better travel cards: you get 30,000 miles for opening up the account and adding an authorized user. You can get a 10,000 point bonus if you put $25,000 on it during a calendar year. Continental also offers the first checked bag free, priority boarding, Two Annual Presidents Club Day passes and the card has no annual fee for the first year. An additional bonus is saving $2.00 when you watch TV on the pay per flight TVs behind the head rest as well as save $2.00 on drinks when using the card. If you carry the Continental OnePass credit card you are also protected from your miles expiring.

Best part of all of this? United has just changed their card to match the Continental card. If you don’t have either one of them, I recommend getting both. The Continental card through Chase won’t be around forever, so now is the time to get that one, even if you want to hold off on getting the United card.
